Blending modern distilling techniques with time-honoured traditions
Our passion for creating the finest New Zealand spirits comes from our vast bartending experience in the hospitality industry, where we learnt that the best beverages tell stories. These stories aren’t just about how they’re mixed, poured and served: they’re about what they’re made from, where they’re made and how they’re made: the ingredients, process, place and people that come together to create something spectacular.
THE NATIONAL DISTILLERY COMPANY IS HONOURED TO BE THE NEW CUSTODIANS OF A HISTORIC ART NOUVEAU 1930’S LANDMARK BUILDING IN AHURIRI, AN OLD MARITIME TOWN STEEPED IN HISTORY AND CHARACTER.
Positioned on the corner of Ossian Street, The National Distillery Company (Formerly home of the National Tobacco Company and Rothmans) is the diamond in Napier’s architectural crown. Considered an architectural rarity, our Distillery is an impressive example of the birth of modernism in New Zealand Architect, Louis Hay’s original drawings were based on the idea of an ‘arch within a square.’ Hay’s entire design reflects the influence of Art Nouveau and Modernism on the architect. It’s the perfect setting for tasting our handcrafted selection of copper distilled New Zealand gin, vodka, rum and whisky.
We blend modern distilling techniques with time-honoured traditions. We celebrate an exciting play between expansive creativity and an unbending commitment to making spirits that will stand the test of time.
This duality defines us, inspiring our approach to crafting the finest selection of copper distilled New Zealand gins, vodkas, rums and whiskies available.
