unique handcrafted pottery
Joe started making pots as a little kid in his dad’s studio down in Wairarapa, which graduated into a job during school and uni holidays. A few years later, Mahora Pottery started after rekindling a love for making pots at the Taradale Pottery Club.
Joe has a knack for crafting pots that are not only affordable, simple, and practical but also possess a unique charm. He throws pots on the wheel, mixes up his own glaze, and fires them in electric kilns in his (dusty) home studio.
He set up at the Hastings Farmers Market at the end of 2022 and has been selling domestic ware since. The market has been a fantastic way to launch the business and allows him to sell pots directly to the customer. It has been heartwarming as people slowly add to their collections of bowls or mugs.
