Meri’s Story – My Father Tahitian born ( Pacific Islands) and mother New Zealand Maori. I was the eldest out of my siblings therefore chosen to learn how to make the Cook- Island cuisine at a very young age. I would be sent to an Aunty’s home to learn how to make a certain Pacific Island dish. While travelling around New Zealand over the years I came across these dishes on many occasions and believed this was not the correct representation or taste. I decided to offer a taste of the Pacific Island cuisine and my Maori kai thus utilising that “formative” training to present Cook Island cuisine the way it should be- home made, and made well.
